Barbados and Colombia representatives join Global Americans High-Level Working Group on Inter-American Relations and Bipartisanship

Dame Billie Miller and Amb. María Ángela Holguín Cuellar join the second round of the Global Americans High-Level Working Group on Inter-American Relations and Bipartisanship as co-chairs.

The second round follows a successful first year of producing bipartisan and cross-regional recommendations for the U.S. and the hemispheric community to improve inter-American relations.

New York, NY. Global Americans is pleased to announce that Dame Billie Miller from Barbados and Amb. María Ángela Holguín Cuellar from Colombia will join the High- Level Working Group on Inter-American Relations and Bipartisanship. The working group was created in 2017 comprising former policymakers, scholars, civil society and business leaders of the Americas to discuss bipartisan and cross-regional ways that the current U.S. administration can build and improve upon the achievements of the past two decades of inter-American relations. After a successful launch and submission of first recommendations on economic integration and trade; combatting organized crime; and greater U.S.-Latin America collaboration on anti-corruption; among other topics; the working group will continue its work into 2019 widening the network of participants to cover the region’s most pressing issues. Dame Billie Miller is the former Deputy Prime Minister, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados. She is also a member of the Barbados Family Planning Association, the Barbados National Trust and the Barbados Museum and Historical Society. Among her many recognitions, Dame Miller was selected in 2008 as the Laureate for the United Nations Population Award for her outstanding contribution to the awareness of population issues and in 2006 the Caribbean Tourism Organization presented her with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her distinguished service to the Caribbean and her promotion of the region as the world’s premier warm-weather destination.

Amb. María Ángela Holguín Cuellar is the Former Foreign Minister of Colombia and Ambassador to the United Nations. She has twenty years’ experience in the public and private sectors and has also held senior posts in the Colombian government in the the Office of the President and the Office of the Inspector General. As a qualified diplomat, María Ángela Holguín has vast multilateral experience and has displayed a high level of commitment and respect for multilateral processes.
