Tulio Vera

International Advisory Committee Chair - Tulio P. Vera has over 25 years of experience in policy and financial markets, specializing in Emerging Markets (EM). His expertise is in macroeconomics and country risk, as well as in debt, interest-rate, and currency markets in EM. Over his career, he has built and ran successful EM investment strategy and macroeconomic research teams, launched his own hedge fund, and worked as a portfolio manager and on multilateral policy issues. He has been active in EM financial markets since their inception. Tulio was a Managing Director and the Chief Investment Strategist for the J.P. Morgan (JPM) Latin America Private Bank, responsible for providing multi-asset investment strategy for client portfolios in global equities, fixed income, and alternatives. He also sat on the JPM Private Bank’s Global Investment Committee.

Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager in global EM at the hedge fund Millennium Management, and was a Founder/Partner and Chief Investment Strategist at Bladex Asset Management (BAM), a Latin American macro hedge fund. For ten years, Tulio was the Chief EM Macro Strategist for Merrill Lynch. In this capacity, he built and was responsible for global EM research, investment strategy, and macroeconomic research for Latin America and emerging regions of Europe. Tulio also ran research teams at ABN-Amro and Bear Stearns, and has served as a financial officer at the World Bank and as a senior sovereign analyst at Moody’s. He has had extensive visual and printed media exposure and has a wealth of public-speaking experience. He has been a frequent guest on CNN, Bloomberg TV, CNBC, and other news programs, and was a columnist for El Mercurio, a major Chilean newspaper. Tulio is currently a co-owner of Nolita Wine Merchants, a fine wine enterprise in Manhattan; a board member of Friends of the Catholic University of Chile; and an advisor to the board of NESsT (Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-Sustainability Team). Previously, he sat on the board of the North American-Chilean Chamber of Commerce (NACCC). He remains involved in various financial advisory assignments. Tulio was born in Santiago, Chile, and lives in Manhattan with his wife Isabelle. He has two grown children and a stepdaughter. He received a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Maryland and has a Master’s degree (and is ABD) in International Finance and Monetary Economics from New York University.
