In a long rant about FIFA corruption, John Oliver uses as an example the white elephants created by the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.  “Just last year, Brazil spent billions of dollars in massive new stadiums to host the World Cup—stadiums which have met a predictable fate…”  He then cites a news report that reveals that the second most expensive stadium in the world—built for the 2014 World Cup—is now a parking lot for a bus terminal.  As he says—referring to the classic Joni Mitchell song, Brazil has literally “paved paradise to put up a parking lot.
