lula-and-dilma-cartoonThings are not looking so good for former Brazilian and rockstar president Lula da Silva. Not only was his successor, Dilma Rousseff, impeached and ousted from government last month—not even halfway through her second term—but this week a judge confirmed that Lula himself will be tried for corruption.  According to Lula, this is no more than a campaign against him, to halt his political career and his presidential bid for 2018.

Lula claims innocence and denies having received $1.1 million in kickbacks from construction companies in exchange for Petrobras contracts, and owning a beach front apartment that was allegedly bought with this money. But it’s  getting harder for him to pretend that he knew nothing about the scheme that has involved the highest ranks of government.  Is the PT’s ship sinking?
